Apple cider (also called sweet cider or soft cider) is the name used in the United States and parts of Canada for an unfiltered, unsweetened, non-alcoholic beverage made from apples. It may be opaque due to fine apple particles in suspension and may be tangier than conventional filtered apple juice, depending on the apples used.
Apple cider vinegar is made by crushing fresh apples and allowing them ferment. The best quality apple cider vinegar is made with organic apples, allowed to mature in wooden barrels and retains the “mother,” which is a natural sediment. Apple cider vinegar should be a little cloudy with a rich amber color.
ACV has been used since ancient times as a remedy for many different ailments. Even though the health benefits are anecdotal and have not been scientifically confirmed, it is one of the most popular alternative health remedies in use today.
We at Ponderosa Valley Wellness have always heard that ACV taken orally and in limited amounts is good for you. But through research we found that there are various opinions regarding the pros and cons of ACV. It’s always best to check with your doctor and do your own research before drinking ACV on a regular basis. One of the many arguments is that because it is very acidic, it can cause damage to the email of teeth.
One of the main reasons for the popularity of apple cider vinegar is the fact that it is thought to be very effective in detoxing both the blood stream and various organs in the body. Aspects of ACV act, therefore, as a purifier where this drink can have the ability to break down fatty mucous and phlegm deposits in the body.
Apple cider vinegar is known for improving the flow of blood throughout the body and for reducing blood pressure; also thinning the blood and making the vessels expand. The most well known benefit of ACV is that can boost a person’s metabolism which can lead to faster weight loss. Again these claims are questionable and further research should be done.
Apple cider vinegar can be one of the most effective and versatile skin remedies. It is also has valuable properties as a cosmetic for the skin.
Some of the many nutrients that ACV contain are calcium, iron, potassium, magnesium and phosphorus. ACV also contains pectin which reduces cholesterol, lowers blood pressure and eases constipation. The potassium in ACV can provide better hair, teeth and nails, prevent cramps and help detox.
The medicinal benefits and stated facts are many; the question is, who do we listen to and who is right?
In our opinion it’s still open for discussion as more research is necessary.
Have you taken apple cider vinegar and if so, did you receive any health benefits?
